What is a cookie?

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a small text file (containing letters and numbers) downloaded to your computer, mobile, or other Internet access terminal when you access a particular site. Cookies allow a site to recognize a user’s past preferences when returning to the site. A cookie itself does not contain or collect information. However, when read by a server along with a web browser, it can help the site deliver more personalized services, such as language preferences, record dates, etc.

Cookies are stored in the browser’s memory and each of them usually contains:

The name of the server where the cookie was placed
Cookie life
Value – usually a uniquely generated random number
The server of the website that placed a particular cookie will use this identification number when the user returns to that site or navigates from one page to another. Only the server that placed that cookie can read it and therefore use it. Cookies are essential for customizing your Internet experience, and behavioral target advertising typically works by using cookies.

What are Cookies used for?

These files make it possible to recognize the user’s terminal and present the content in a relevant way, adapted to the user’s preferences. Cookies provide users with a good browsing experience. They are also used to prepare aggregated anonymous statistics that help us understand how a user benefits from our web pages, allowing us to improve their structure and content, excluding the user’s personal identification.

What Cookies does the website www.nowcreatives.com use?

We use two types of cookies:

Session cookies – they are temporarily stored in the web browser’s cookie folder to save them until the user exits the web site or closes the browser window (for example, when logging / deleting on a webmail account or on social networks)
Persistent cookies – These are stored on the hard drive of a computer or equipment (and generally depends on the default cookie lifetime). Persistent cookies include those placed on a website other than the one the user is currently visiting – known as ‘third party cookies’ – which can be used anonymously to memorize the interests of a user, so that advertising is delivered as relevant as possible to users

How to manage cookies

Almost all modern browsers provide ways for you to control how your computer handles cookies. This includes the ability to block all or different types of cookies – and preventing them from being placed on your machine in the first place. They also enable you to delete the cookies that you already have. However each browser is different – and some offer more fine-grained control than others, or at least control that is easier to find. Anyone wishing to take better control over their online privacy would be well advised to spend some time familiarising themselves with the controls in their browser. However, below we provide a bit of an overview for the most common browsers.

Browsers are of course found on smartphone and tablets as well as traditional computers. Generally speaking smartphone browsers do not provide anywhere near the level of functionality in respect of cookie controls that ones on your PC or laptop do. However this is changing quickly so it is worthwhile trying to find out what controls you can make use of.

You can set your browser not to accept cookies, and below you will learn how to remove cookies from your browser. However, in a few cases, some of our website features may not function as a result.
